Rice University Real Estate Commission Survey Results

Real Estate Commission Rates by Market and Transaction Value

Total Commission Rates by Market

Buyer’s Agent Commission Rates by Market

Seller’s Agent Commission Rates by Market

Results are from n=2115 survey respondents across 14 Core-Based Statistical Areas (CBSAs). Transactions randomly sampled are from February to July 2024, before the NAR settlement took effect. Commission rates are as a fraction of transaction value. The sampling methodology involved taking a 5% random sample from February to June and a 15% random sample in July, with 1 random transaction per agent kept. Results are weighted by four categories of transaction size (<$250k, $250k-500k, $500k-750k, over $750k) to ensure sample representativeness with respect to the transaction size distribution in each CBSA. The second working paper referenced below contains more information about the survey methodology. Please feel free to contact us with any questions.
