Welcome to the Rice University Real Estate Commission Survey

The Rice University Real Estate Commission Survey aims to shed light on evolving trends in the real estate market, particularly following the 2024 National Association of Realtors (NAR) settlement. Our study focuses on understanding whether and how commission rates are evolving in recent real estate transactions.

Purpose of the Survey

This research seeks to provide crucial insights into the current state of commission rates in the U.S. real estate market. By tracking commission payments from both the seller and buyer sides, we aim to assess the broader effects of regulatory changes on market liquidity and commission structures.

How We Gather Information

We contact listing and buying agents to gather information on the commission rates. The process involves:

  • Email survey from Qualtrics: A brief email survey from Qualtrics asking about commission splits between buyer and seller agents.
